Have you noticed the sign near the car park at Our Lady’s Church? It’s an invitation to attend Alpha. The sign looks mysterious enough that it triggered my curiosity. I asked Fr. Rene what it was about and he said it’s a gathering of people who are interested in learning more about Christianity. The participants would gather every Thursday, share some food viewing a video presentation (with varying topics each week), followed by group discussions.

I didn’t attend until week three as I initially thought “what else can these Alpha sessions teach me that I don’t already know about?” I am a Christian, Catholic, educated in Catholic Schools, a practicing Catholic, do I really need to attend these sessions?

The answer was no. I didn’t have to but I chose to. I was impressed by the videos shown in the sessions.

The topics were thought provoking and they inspired people to talk about their experiences of being Christians and discuss issues that I thought I already have answers to. Is there more to life than this? Who is Jesus? Why did Jesus die? How can I have faith? Why and how do I pray? How and why should I read the bible? How can I resist evil? Does God heal today? Why and how should I tell others? What about the church?

As Christians, lovers of Christ, do we not have the responsibility to strengthen our relationship with Him? By seeking to know more about Him, what He wants from us, what we can do for Him, how we can spread the Good News that is CHRIST. Alpha set the tone to let us gather together and share our thoughts, our love for JESUS, our commitment to our FAITH, and the rekindling of our relationship with our GOD.

I gained new friends and greater understanding of my faith.
